Over the weekend someone dropped the heal from a loaf of bread on the floor. They chucked it in the trash saying “it’s not like anyone eats that part anyway”. It was a beautiful day so I swooped in and took the heal of bread to the back door … tore it into bits and threw them out onto the lawn.
We continued to clean the kitchen and noticed one delighted squirrel come from some distance sniffing all the while. He found the first piece and ate it right on the spot. We were speculating as to whether it went into his cheek or his belly. He went for another one and bounded away with it. Hopefully a present for someone he loves
. He returned shortly and after a few quick nibbles he began burying the others one by one.
We had a laugh at how disappointed he’d be if he ever tried to look for them again. Bits of bread may be a great gift today but they don’t last when buried.
Since then I’ve been pondering myself. What gifts of mine am I burying thinking they will be more useful later? What am I choosing NOT to share today that will have zero value if I save it for later?
I’d love to hear your reflections on this for your own life!

Wow! Thank you. I’m going to think about this every time I catch myself not sharing.
